Physical Education and Health Class

      Welcome!

Thank you for visiting Mrs. Smith's Physical Education and Health class webpage! On this page you can find our daily class activities, homework and links for homework help. Monday through Thursday is strictly PE class. Friday is strictly health class. On Fridays you will not be required to dress out. You may rent a locker for the school year to keep your PE gear in for $20. You can rent at any time. You can also find my contact information on our webpage.

 


Weekly Highlight

August 10-14 Week 1:

  • First week of school, woohoo! laugh This week is all about getting acclimated in the new school year. We will be going over the rules and expectations of this year. We will also start selling PE uniforms, which are required. They are $10 per shirt/shorts (cash and check accepted). You will have a "free pass" until Aug 17 when we expect all students to have a uniform. (students can wear their own athletic clothes until they have purchased the uniform)
  • First week of school we will begin the basics of basketball (rules, drills, & form).
  • We will practice shooting with technical form.
  • Friday in health we will learn the WHYs of health and nutrition. Students have been given a health evaluation form to fill out, it is due next friday August 21.

August 17-21 Week 2:

  • Week two: Congratulations you made it through the first week of school!
  • This week we will continue basketball. We will start with a review of the rules, followed by warming up with drills. We will learn how to play a simple game of HORSE in groups of 3 around the gym, we will do this to practice the proper technique of shooting, this will be Monday and Tuesday's class. Students were given a worksheet of basketball rules, this will be due Friday August 17 in health class.
  • Wednesday and Thusday we will do relay races and learn how to play knock out, the rules of basketball will continue to be reviewed.
  • Friday in health class we will be learning about the food pyramid, students will be given a worksheet to complete and turn in on Monday August 24. Students will have a quiz on the food pyramid next friday August 28.

 

August 24-28 Week 3:

  • Week three: We will begin Monday with a quick review of the games, drills and a short practice game.
  • Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday we will be having a basketball tournament. We will have 5 teams of 5 students in each team. Winning team will move on to play the winning team and so on until we come down to a PE champion.
  • Student's homework for PE will be to fill out the volleyball worksheet in preparation for next week's sport- Volleyball!
  • Friday we will begin health with questions on the food pyramid followed by the quiz. Concluding the quiz we will move on to our next lesson which will be more extensive nutrition. Students will be given a worksheet and required to journal their daily nutrition habits for one week. This will be due next Friday September 4. There will not be a quiz next week.

In the instance we go to distance learning, I will be posting daily workout videos to get the blood flowing. Feel free to utilize YouTube to find your own workout, goal is to get moving for 30 minutes each day.
